Hotel Taj Mahal Palace And Beyond
After their entry into hotel segment
through Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, there was no looking back for Tata Group. Their
foray into hotel business through Taj Hotels was a landmark entry. After an
opening of Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai, their focus on hotels started in the
1970s. In 1974, the group opened its first international five-star deluxe beach
resorts Taj Fort Aguada Resort and Spa, Goa and five-star deluxe hotel Taj
Coromandel in Chennai. Taj Ganges in Benares soon followed these hotels. In the
1980s, they came up with two hotels in Delhi, two in Bangalore and one in
Chennai, Ooty, and Agra among others. The end of the 80s saw a hotel in Delhi.
The early 70s saw a new field to
encompass for Taj Group of Hotels and they were pioneers of converting royal
palaces into luxury hotels. The first palace to transform into a luxury hotel
was Lake Palace, Udaipur in 1971. Other palaces that converted were Rambagh
Palace in Jaipur, Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Nadesar Palace in Varanasi
and Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad among others.
Gradually in 1980, the company aimed
for international hotels and came up with Taj Sheba Hotel in Sana’a in Yemen.
Currently, they have international hotels at Bhutan, Malaysia, South Africa,
Nepal, Sri Lanka, United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Zambia,
Maldives and United Kingdom.
The groups foresee initiated their
entry into TajSATS Air Catering Ltd. It is a joint venture of Indian Hotels
Company and SATS. The company provides in-flight catering at Mumbai, Delhi,
Chennai, Kolkata, Goa, and Bangalore among others. They have state of the art
technology and advanced kitchen equipment for efficient and hygienic food. It
operates in locations like Amritsar, Bangalore, Chennai, Goa, Kolkata, Mumbai
